Mind Health

I am a 6'7" 230 lb man and a person half my size is bullying me. What should I do? (No violence!)

Top Answer:

First, remind yourself that you are an amazing person. Then, see if the bully is open to conversation. Offer your friendship and try to forgive and forget. Often times, bullies pick on others because there's something missing in their lives. A great book that might help you is "The Bully, The bullied, and The Bystander," by Barbara Coloroso. It will give you great insight on why people bully and how you can deal with it.

Question of the Month

General

What is the best way to prioritize when everything seems important?

Top Answer:

The best way to prioritize is to decide on what, in general, is most important in your life. Once you have that focus, prioritizing tasks becomes easier. You can draw a circle and put the most important thing in the center. For some people, that will be God; for others it will be family, for others it will be career. That central focus should guide your tasks. Do the tasks that lead to that center first.

Answered by mariana

Recent Answer:

You can make a rotating schedule of priorities, if everything really is equally important. For a week or a month, focus on X, then the next week/month focus on Y. For day-to-day things, I like using dice or a random number generator to make the decision for me. :)

It really depends on the high school. Mine had 3,000 students, so cliques weren't as obvious as in smaller schools.

Body Health

I want to eat more healthy, but I don't know where to start. Any tips?

Top Answer:

Start with vegetables and fruit; the vast majority of them are healthy. If you aren't allergic to nuts, they also make a good snack and are healthy. If you eat fruits and/or veggies with nuts, you've got a healthy snack that's portable and that covers all the bases: carbs, protein, and fat.

It's easiest to add small things to the diet you already have than to change everything all at once. See if you can challenge yourself to eat one more fruit or vegetable per day than you already do. Once that's a habit, maybe try taking away or reducing one food or snack that doesn't make you feel so great, or switching from one version of something to a healthier version. If you take small steps very slowly, they're more likely to become lifetime habits than if you change everything all at once. :)

General

How can I better balance family and work life? I'm very passionate about both.

Top Answer:

It's always a hard balance, but I've found the best way is to commit to my work hours being work hours, and my family time being family time. If this isn't doable every day, choose one to two days of the week there are dedicated family time. Put an "out of office" on your email explaining that you turn off all communications to spend time with your family once a week, and that you'll respond to emails the next day. Then do special things with your family, even if it's just sitting down to watch a movie together, or going for a walk in a nature area.

Get to know your neighbours and do acts of kindness for them whenever possible. Try to see the good in people. For example, are they just nosy, or are they concerned for your well-being? The way you interpret others' actions may help you get through less-than-ideal situations.
